Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy stories such as weapons control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
